LOTUS

Starting in June 2023, I have been creating a series of murals in the Greenpoint Avenue Subway Station. These murals are created on the black, blank advertisement poster wall spaces. The name of the series, Lotus, is a reference to the lotus flower, known to blossom beautifully, though stemming from muddy and grotesque environments. 

The subway system of New York City is a symbol of people's daily lives and struggles. It serves as a reference to the conditions in which the lotus flower grows. The advertisement posters replaced can be perceived as part of the greater system, not unlike the swamp and the mud. 

However, once in a while, without purpose, without an intended duration, a flower blossoms.
